ABOUT ME
Unlike most chefs, Kara didn’t grow up cooking allthe delicious, gourmet dishes
she has grown to love. With strong family ties on both sides of her family, year
after year, Kara enjoyed sumptuous, Southern feasts prepared by her mother,
grandmother’s and aunties. During this time, she never learned how to cook, but
she developed an appreciation and her palate for quality ingredients and well-
seasoned food.
After spending more than 15 years as a writer, the recession of 2009 forced Kara
to look at a new career. As an avid foodie and a popular reviewer on Yelp, she
decided she would focus her writing on the booming culinary scene and enrolled
in Le Cordon Bleu Chicago to learn more about the industry. What she didn’t
know, however, was that she would fall in love with cooking and decided to
pursue it full-time.
During her 10-year career, Kara owns a catering business and had the chance to
work with some of Chicago’s top chefs including Troy Graves, Michelin-starred
Chefs Danny Grant and Jared Wentworth and the legendary Mother Josephine
Wade. She also adds The Promontory, The Peninsula Chicago, Maple and Ash,
The University of Chicago and Aster Hall, to her resume.
Her favorite celebrity chefs are anthony Bourdain, Marcus Samuellson and Stephen Satterfield because they boldly and with an open-mind, traveled the
country and globe to learn about the food cultures of each place they visited.
She is also a a popular private chef with illustrious clients such as the Pritzker
family, WNBA 2021 Champions, Diamond DeShields and Azura Stevens,
including many more.
